Arguably the best back court combo of 2018 will be matching up with the best back court combo of 2019 when the Ranney School travels north to play Hudson Catholic in the 13th Annual Dan Finn Classic at the Jersey City Armory on January 14, 2017. So it will be the Hawks Jahvon Quinerly and Luther Muhammad against Scottie Lewis and Bryan Antoine from the Tinton Falls school.
The four have all of the things that the “big” schools look for; size, athleticism, the ability to shoot as well as get to the rim, and, most importantly, the desire to excel defensively. Literally all of the high D1 major universities have been in touch or in fact offered scholarships including Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Seton Hall, and Rutgers.
Former U. of Maryland star, 6’10” Tahj Holden will be coaching the Panthers assisted by a local talent of the past, Bill “Red” Drennan. They started four freshman this past season and all are looking forward to the challenge of an upgraded schedule.
The final three games of the DFC should include six of the top ten teams in the State by tipoff. Mater Dei will face Newark East Side at 4:00PM, followed by The Patrick School versus St. Anthony at 5:45PM and the RS against HC at 7:30PM. So get there early and bring a seat cushion as the day promises all the excitement of previous years.
